Summer solstice is right around the corner! Between vacations, weddings, group outings, summer shopping and more, summer can be hard on the wallet. But your date nights shouldn’t have to suffer! Here are 13 inexpensive or free summer date ideas:
Go for a hike
Get active with your honey by going for a hike this summer. Grab some snacks and waters (maybe even swimsuits if you’re hiking around water) and get to it! And with many hiking trails shaded by trees, you may be able to beat some of the heat.
Have a picnic
There’s just something lovely about eating on a blanket while the sun tickles your skin. Head to your favorite spot – or even your backyard – for a fun picnic date.
Play backyard games
You don’t have to have cornhole boards or croquet to enjoy outdoor games. (But even better if you do!) Stop by the dollar store and grab some kiddy toys, like Wiffle ball, the Velcro ball catch game, water guns, a frisbee, etc. You’ll be surprised how much fun you’ll have with those simple games!
Gaze at the stars
If the skies are clear, grab a blanket and head outside to stargaze with your honey. Maybe you’ll see a shooting star!
Give back to your community by finding a local cause you’re both excited about. Keep in mind, some volunteer opportunities are highly sought after (like puppy socializing), so you may have to reserve your spot in advance.
Have happy hour at home with summer appetizers
Find a few summer appetizer recipes and make them together – then enjoy them with a happy hour at home!
Go for ice cream
You can’t go wrong with this classic date! Skip the heat and head to your favorite ice cream parlor.
Check out a local festival
Wine festivals, chicken wing festivals, music festivals – there is no shortage of festivals in the summer and many are inexpensive or free!
Start binging a new show
Just can’t even deal with the heat? Soak up that A.C. and cozy up to start watching a new show. (I mean, the new season of Orange Is the New Black just aired on Netflix. Need I say more?)
Head to the park
Another oldie, but goodie. Grab your bae and enjoy some time in your favorite city parks.
Visit a vineyard
Wine, snacks and music – oh my! To cut costs, pack some finger foods for a picnic so you only have to buy wine at the vineyard.
Stop by your local brewery
Quench your thirst with some local brews. Many breweries offer tours with beer sampling for under $10 per person.
Check a DIY project off the to-do list.
You know those DIY projects that you’d love to do, but just haven’t yet? Now’s the time, especially if you have indoor projects on the list! Put on some tunes and get to work. And once you’re done, celebrate with one of the cheap summer date ideas above! 😉
